  • Torch Procession - part of Edinburgh Hogmanay (31 Dec)
  • Edinburgh Hogmanay (30 Dec - 01 Jan)

Sights and places:

  • Edinburgh Castle dominates Scotland's capital city from its great rock. Its story has helped shape the nation's story.
  • Arthur's Seat provides a more adventurous hike. Reaching the top would roughly take an hour walk.
  • Calton Hill has superb panoramic view, taking in pretty much the whole of Edinburgh.
  • The Queen's Gallery - Palace of Holyroodhouse. Built in the shell of the former Holyrood Free Church and Duchess of Gordon's School, the Gallery provides purpose-built, state-of-the-art facilities to enable a programme of changing exhibitions from the Royal Collection
  • The Real Mary King's Close. Buried deep beneath Edinburgh's Royal Mile lies the city's deepest secret warren of hidden streets that has remained frozen in time since the 17th century. It's more of a historical tour rather than a haunted one but it's a great experience.
  • National Museum of Scotland From dinosaur bones to designer chairs and mummies to motors, a creative world of discovery awaits on every floor.
  • Scottish Storytelling CentreThe Centre houses a free permanent exhibition, Scotland's Stories, as well as a gift shop, cafe and accessible facilities.
  • Described as 'the noisiest museum in the world', the Museum of Childhood is a favourite with adults and children alike.
  • To the Potterheads in the bunch,we know that Hogwarts is somewhere in Scotland but since we can't go there, we could at least visit the Elephant House. The birthplace of Harry Potter! even if you're not a Potter fan, this cafe provides nice refreshments and a great place to hang out and chill. There is also the Potter Trail, the only tour in Edinburgh designed especially for Potter fans!
